Sunday 7th January 2010, A very drunk Helen
Lawson fired both barrels of a shotgun at point blank
range into her husbands chest and abdomen, killing him
instantly, she then calmly called the emergency
services.
She claimed he was "hell to
live with". She had access to guns as was a keen clay
pigeon shooter, and held a gun licence.
Monday 22nd March 2010,
Trial of Helen Lawson starts at Winchester Crown Court.
The jury was told that she
put the bedroom light on, then she called out her
husband's name to make sure he was awake, then she shot
him, with both barrels.
Tuesday 30th March 2010,
Helen Lawson admitted manslaughter on the grounds of
diminished responsibility but was convicted of murder.
Mr Justice Sweeney told her
she would serve a minimum 15 years for the cold-blooded
killing at the home she and her third husband shared in
Wellow, Isle of Wight.
