22nd May 1997, Katerina Koneva, aged-12 years, was strangled at her home after she returned from school. Her father, Trajce Konev, came face to face with an intruder when he returned home and chased him out of the house. Kunowski was charged with murder after his DNA was matched when he was arrested for a separate crime.
The Polish illegal immigrant came to Britain on false Portuguese documents in 1996 after absconding from prison in Poland, where he had been convicted of 17 rapes and faced a total of 70 charges.
March 2004, Trial at the Old Bailey in London, Kunowski is found guilty of the 1997 murder of Katerina Koneva. Kunowski was suspected of committing several other rapes in the UK, but no further action was taken by police.

Kunowski was one of the prisoners on the home office list of Life sentence prisoners who were told they would never be released.
