Robert Cunningham

16th March 2008, baby Brandon, just 23-months-old, was pronounced dead at Ninewells Hospital after being hit so hard that his intestine ruptured.
Medical examinations of the body uncovered at least 40 injuries, including cracked ribs and cuts.

Robert Cunningham was living at the home at the time with the child's mother, Heather Boyd.

23-month-old Brandon had been left in the care of Cunningham the day before he died while his mother Heather Boyd went to work as a prostitute to earn money for her heroin habit.

Tuesday 31st March 2009, At the High court in Glasgow Cunningham was convicted of the lesser charge of culpable homicide by a majority verdict

Ms Boyd had been charged with the culpable homicide of her son by failing to get him medical help after he was attacked by Cunningham.

During the trial, medical experts said the injuries had been caused by a "massive blow" to his stomach area.

Tuesday 31st March 2009,
Heather Boyd cleared of the charges against her. Cunningham was sentenced to ten years.

Brandon's mother, Heather Boyd, was also charged with the culpable homicide of her son, by failing to get him the medical help  he needed, after he was attacked by Cunningham. She was later cleared of all the charges against her.
