30th March 1998, O'Hara stabbed his girlfriend to death in an alleyway in Oldham, only a few days after she broke up with him. She was walking to the bus stop on her way to work, just yards from her parents home in Rishworth Rise, Higher Crompton, Shaw. He stabbed her about 12 times, and only stopped when the blade on the kitchen knife snapped.

 

April 2012, Released from prison on life licence.

 

April 2013, He met Cherylee at a hardware store she owned, they struck up a friendship and he started working for her, it was not long before a relationship started. Violence soon followed, and Cherylee was often making excuses to family and friends about various injuries she had. On one occasion on bonfire night she appeared with a black-eye.

 

12th March 2014, Family convinced her to report the incident. The probation service were informed.

 

17th March 2014, O'Hara burst into Cherylee Shennan's home, as two police officers were present. They had been called by the probation service after a complaint about the abuse she was suffering from O'Hara.

Det Sgt Damien McAllister and Det Con Karen Kenworthy were interviewing Cherylee, O'Hara attacked all three of them with a hammer, before chasing Miss Shennan into the street where he stabbed her multiple times,. she died at the scene.

 

June 2014, At Preston Crown Court Paul O'Hara pleaded guilty to murdering Cherylee Shennan, and also pleaded guilty to Unlawfully and maliciously wounding or causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, and Assault with intent to resist arrest.
 

30th June 2014, At sentencing O'Hara, Judge Anthony Russell QC, said he was "very dangerous to women", and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
He gave the killer 10 years for attacking Det Sgt McAllister and two years for the assault on Det Con Kenworthy, to run concurrently to his whole life term for murder.
