JAMES HUGHES & Heather Wardle

 

Heather Wardle, 39, from Redditch, Worcestershire, and her son, James Hughes, both went missing on Friday 18th April 2008.

A search was continuing for the "extremely vulnerable" Mr Hughes, who is 22 but has the mental age of an 18-month-old.

The body of mother-of-four Mrs Wardle was found in undergrowth off Winyates Way in the Church Hill area of Redditch on Monday 21st April 2008.

It is believed her body was found less than a mile from where she lived with her son. When found the body had a ligature round the neck.

 

Police have said "James cannot communicate at all, or walk very far and has a hearing impairment.
He cannot feed himself or even communicate that he is hungry, and he does not usually respond to his own name.
He needs medication for epilepsy, and without this he is likely to have very regular fits.
In short he is very disabled, requiring round the clock care, and we remain extremely concerned for his safety."

Mr Hughes body was found on 23rd April in Church hill, Redditch.

Two men have been arrested. It is believed that the arrested man is 36-year-old Brian Kirby, the partner of Ms Wardle.

 

Thursday 24th April, police have confirmed that the body found in the the family home in Redditch is that of 22 year old  James Hughes.

police have been given additional time by the court to hold the 2 arrested men.

 

Friday 25th April 2008, Police confirmed that the body of James was found in a suitcase in the garden of the family home. The post-mortem was inconclusive as the body was badly decomposed.

 

2nd May 2008, The step-father of James, Brian Kirby, who was arrested along with a 17 year old, spoke, talking of his love for the family.

Both men were released without charge.

The investigation continues.
